Floral Wellness and Boosting Our Wellbeing

Flowers are really important to us humans. The minute you inhale their smell, something immediately shoots up to our brain. All of a sudden, we’re triggered to experience happy and warm thoughts. That’s because our response to color is intensely emotional and directly connected to our nervous systems.

It’s safe to say that the natural beauty aesthetic is soothing to many of us, and for some it’s our path of wellbeing. With this in mind, The Gathering Spot LA hosts Floral Wellness with Postal Petals. Since my transition to the City of Angels I’ve had the opportunity to experience two of these delightful link ups.

After sharing the joy of flowers with like minded women, I got to speak to Postal Petals founder Talia Boone and learn some of her aspirational story. Like I had suspected, Postal Petals was birthed out of a need for how we interact with flowers during lockdown.

When Talia Boone felt stressed or anxious she would lean into flowers for self medication. Talia remembers going to the floral market, picking up fresh blooms and returning home to pour a cup of tea, a glass of wine and a playlist to woosah. Picture the full blown pandemic when flower markets and floral shops were closed and the only options available were the familiar digital floral companies (FTB, 1-800 Flowers) who only offer arrangements.

After being in lockdown for 6-weeks, and not having the opportunity to engage in her go-to self-care routine Talia identified a hole in the flower marketplace. Her need for self-care became the catalyst of a disruptive venture.

I called a wholesale flower distributer who shipped large volumes of flowers to retail clients all around the world. We ended up on the phone for two and a half hours and at the end of our conversation I realized that what I was looking for did not exist.

As events, weddings, and everything in between got cancelled, flower farms weren’t doing any business and desperately seeking ways to bring their products to market. By May 2020, Talia did the math of what this new floral business would look like and went after locking in 20 domestic farms to spend 6-weeks in beta. Fast forward to today, and Postal Petals is a Farm-Fresh DIY flowers brand featured in Forbes, Better Homes & Garden, The Jennifer Hudson Show, GQ, Essence and hand selected for Mastercard’s Small Business City. Thanks to Postal Petals I made a new strong flower friend: Protea

Protea

Protea are enchanting, tropical blooms perched on tall, sturdy stems. Protea flowers have oval-shaped leaves that create a lovely contrast to the colorful blooms cradled in the center. Protea symbolize diversity and courage.

Postal Petals is evolving people’s relationship with flowers into an immersive wellness tool and I’m so glad that I was able to experience it’s benefits IRL.
